Viktor Gyökeres is a 25 year old striker that currently plays in Portugal for Sporting CP. His path to stardom went a bit under the radar. Sporting pulled the trigger and paid 25 M € for him, from Coventry, where he was playing in the Championship.
At the start of the season, some people were a bit skeptical of this move – paying 21 M € for a player, especially in Portugal, always comes with a big risk. What if he flops? Some said that Sporting was following the “Darwin Nuñez formula” (remember that Benfica paid 24M to the second tier Almeria side in order to get him). And… For all that it stands, it truly paid off. Gyökeres so far, played in 44 games for Sporting – scoring 36(!) and assisting in 16 (52 goal contributions). For the national team, he scored 3 in 6 – including one against Portugal

In the link above I’ve shown you what he’s all about – raw pace, physique and the ability to go on 1×1 (and often winning them). He’s truly a special player in this regard and he has the tools to make the defenders look like fools.
Regarding the hobby in itself, so far, he has some stickers and some cards – we will focus on the stickers, because there aren’t any “official hobby sets” released where he features (but I’m sure he will be featured on the new 23-24 Panini Score FIFA). He’s featured on the Portuguese league stickers (2023-24 Panini Futebol) – he has a portrait sticker, the insert one and a “duo” sticker, with Paulinho. There is also his Topps Living set card.

Here are his other rookie stickers from Panini Futebol 2023/24 – #373 and #405
Now, my opinion on him. I think he’s a really good striker. Got the chance to see him live, in the Portugal vs Sweden and he’s a beast – really. Got outplayed vs the Portuguese defence (Sweden does not have the quality to set him up properly) but he scored a goal anyways so that tells you that, on a bad day, he can get the job done.
And that’s it, for this review! Ohobby out.
