The 2013/14 English Premier League season was one of the most thrilling and dramatic campaigns in the league’s history! Manchester City emerged as champions. The title race went down to the wire, with Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea all vying for the top spot until the final weeks of the season. Liverpool, led by Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, mounted a formidable challenge and came close to winning their first league title in over two decades but ultimately finished in second place, maybe thanks to a Steven Gerrard slip?

What a season this was – what can the set bring us?

Let’s get into the top 10!

Not a huge player to start off the list, but a player has managed 38 caps for South Korea and had a decent career thus far. A nice left field rookie sticker to start off this list.

9 – Mesut Ozil – #13 – Rookie Sticker from Panini German Bundesliga 2007/08

Mesut Ozil is an iconic number 10 and one of the last of his kind in the modern era. He is renowned for his exceptional vision, creativity, and passing ability. His intelligence on the ball, precise distribution, and ability to unlock defences with his through balls, make him a lethal player to have on your team.

The 2013/14 season represents the first season for Mesut at Arsenal. Us fans remember the anticipation on deadline day, and were absolutely ecstatic when it was announced. During the season with Arsenal, Ozil showcased his playmaking abilities and contributed significantly to the team’s attacking play. He finished the season with 5 goals and 9 assists.

His best form was yet to come in the Arsenal shirt, but I think this is a really nice sticker, especially for Arsenal fans!

8 – Romelu Lukaku – 97 & 97b(Gold Insert) – Rookie Sticker from Panini Football Belgium 2009-2010

He has a distinctive signature move where he holds off defenders using his strength with his back to goal, and when they overcommit, he turns them and often gets a shot off at goal.

During the English Premier League 2013/14 season, Lukaku signed for Everton. Lukaku showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting numerous goals (16) and establishing himself as one of the league’s top strikers. He demonstrated his ability to lead the line effectively, hold up play, and maybe left Chelsea ruing their mistake of selling him.

Lukaku’s spell at Everton as very successful, as he scored 87 goals in 166 games for the club, earning a big money move to Manchester United. He has had a big career playing for big teams, as well as winning the Serie A title with Inter. I think this is a nice early sticker of Lukaku, and a sticker that represents the start of his goal scoring reputation.

In the English Premier League 2013/14 season with Swansea City, Davies established himself as a reliable left-back, contributing defensively while also providing an outlet in attack with his overlapping runs and deliveries into the box. His performances gain the attention of some of the bigger clubs and signed for Tottenham the following season – where he still plays today (2024).

With over 300 appearances for Spurs, I think this is a nice rookie sticker for Tottenham supporters.

6 – Nathan Redmond Rookie Sticker – #235 & #235b(Gold Insert) & #185(Insert)

In the EPL 2013/14 season, Redmond signed with Norwich City from Championship side Birmingham City. Redmond was a regular in the first team, playing 34 out of 38 games. Norwich ultimately got relegated, but Redmond would continue to put in solid performances and eventually earn a move to Southampton.

He would go onto play over 200 matches for the Saints, being a key player helping them remain a constant in the Premier League. I think this is a nice rookie sticker for one of the Prem’s solid wingers.

5 – Yannick Bolasie Rookie Sticker – #77

When he is firing, defenders are left standing! He is capable of bringing out serious tekkerz and there has been plenty of highlight reels to show this!

In the English Premier League 2013/14 season with Crystal Palace, Bolasie his flair on the ball with impressive dribbles. Bolasie had a short stint in the Premier League when he was actually on form, before injuries significantly dropped his levels. But there was a 3 season period with Palace where he was absolutely cooking defenders on a regular.

For defenders, he was not a player you would want to play against. For viewers, it was get the popcorn out. For that reason alone, Bolasie’s rookie sticker ranks quite high on the list. A cult hero!

4 – Luke Shaw Rookie Sticker – #246

Currently in his 10th season, thats a decent service for Manchester United. Although it hasn’t been their most successful spell, 10 years at a club as big as Man United is a rookie sticker worth collecting.

3 – Eden Hazard – #61 & 61g(Gold Insert) – Rookie Sticker from Panini Foot 2009/10

"Eden

Eden Hazard was an elite winger known for his exceptional dribbling ability, close control, and creative flair. His play style is characterised by quick bursts of acceleration, which enable him to beat defenders and create goal-scoring opportunities. Hazard possesses excellent vision and passing skills, allowing him to link up play effectively and provide assists for his teammates. When at his best, Hazard was unplayable. His low center of gravity, quick feet and smart interplay drove his teams to victory.

In the 2013/14 season, Hazard had a standout campaign, contributing significantly to the team’s success. From midfield, he bagged 14 goals and got 7 assists, winning the young player of the year in the process. Hazard spent 7 years at Chelsea and was by far their best player.

I would consider him a club legend and this sticker, his second season at Chelsea, is a nice one to collect as he absolutely dominated.

2 – Luis Suarez – #146 & #146g(Gold Insert) – Rookie Sticker from AH Eredivisie 2008-2009

"Luis

Luis Suarez is a prolific striker who was an absolute genius in front of goal! For me, I would consider him the best number 9 of the modern era. At Liverpool, he was absolutely flying and the 2013/14 season was maybe his best at Anfield.

Suarez was instrumental for Liverpool FC, showcasing his outstanding skills and finishing ability. He displayed remarkable agility, dribbling, and close control, often leaving defenders trailing in his wake. He netted a very impressive 31 goals in 33 league appearances, earning him the Premier League Golden Boot. It was his last season for Liverpool as Barcelona came knocking.

In his time at Barca, he scored 198 goals! I won’t go into too much detail of his time there as I want to focus on the specific season. Suarez was unplayable and he formed one of the great Premier League partnerships with Daniel Sturridge. Just for this season alone (don’t mind the Gerrard slip), this sticker should be one for the collectors.

What a season!

1 – Yaya Toure – #158 & #158g(Gold Insert) – Rookie Sticker from Panini Football Belgium 2001-2002

"Yaya

Yaya Toure is a powerful complete midfielder known for his physical presence, versatility, and exceptional technical skills. In the English Premier League 2013/14 season, Toure played a pivotal role for Manchester City, contributing significantly to their title-winning campaign.

His key skills include his ability to drive forward with the ball from midfield, his imposing physicality, and his precision in passing and shooting. His remarkable goal-scoring ability from midfield was particularly notable, as he scored crucial goals throughout the season, finishing with an impressive tally of 20 goals in the league.

I personally have never seen such a dominant season from midfield as Toure was this year. He just ran through every single team, often scoring worldies! I am very surprised he isn’t talked about more, because he was incredible. Not only 20 goals from midfield, but he also assisted 9 times!

His season was special as he dragged City to the title. It would have taken a mega season to top Suarez’s 31 goals in 33 games, but I think Toure is just ahead.

An incredible individual season!

Summary

Overall, this was a very weak set in terms of rookie stickers. Luke Shaw is decent but unlikely to ever fetch any serious money. Rather, this ranking list is dominated by the individual performances of the players on the specific season. Suarez and Toure has phenomenal seasons, and I am happy they made the 2nd and 1st places.
