The title might seem wild (and long) but I think this is a really cool story and unique and different, one of those that make your collection a better one.
In 1977-78, Riopele (actual name G.D. Riopele), which, for those of you who don’t know, it’s a portuguese company that makes textiles, but in the 70s they had a professional football team that made the first division in Portugal (their first and only division in the portuguese top tier). A 23 year old, Jorge Jesus got to the team from Belenenses. A season he scored 4 goals in 31 games.
Sadly, the team is now extinct. It’s a unique team, very few teams in the world have similar stories – this was a common practice in Portugal during the 50s. I think Riopele was the last one to reach the top tier of football in Portugal.
